The Shiba Inu, Japan’s most popular autochthonous dog, is also increasing its numbers in Australia, Europe and North America. Previously there was a trend towards poorly developed dentures in adulthood, but this was corrected through careful selective breeding. Like the Basenji, the Shiba rarely barks, and prefers to scream in an extraordinary way. This lovely breed, robust and rather independent, is ideal for someone with experience and patience.

CHARACTER:

The Shiba Inu is a confident, brave and bold dog, always alert, friendly and trained. It is a clean breed, most of them try to avoid puddles, and are relatively easy to educate. They do not bark much, they are playful. A well-trained and balanced Shiba Inu will behave well with children, other dogs and cats.

It is important to socialize the dog from a very early age, as they are distrustful of strangers. If the Shiba Inu is not completely convinced that its owner is the leader of the pack, it can become a dog stubbornly stubborn and will believe that it can establish its own rules. The owner must have good communication with the dog. It is a dog with a natural hunting instinct, so we should not leave it loose in places where there are small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents or small birds. Care must be taken when we leave them without a leash, because as they like to hunt, if their owner is not firm enough and does not have the necessary authority on the dog, he will consider that he can leave whenever he wants.

It is a dog that takes well to the trips. The most important thing is to establish ourselves as leaders of the pack, to treat the dog in a consistent way and to make sure that it is exercised enough to avoid behavior problems.

CHARACTERISTICS:

The Shiba Inu is a small, compact breed. The head is provided with the body. The snout is round and has a moderate stop that narrows towards the nose. The tail is thick at the base and carries on its back in the form of a ring or sickle.

HEALTH PROBLEMS:

LIFE CONDITIONS:

It is a breed that will be fine if we live in an apartment or on a flat, that if you should exercise enough. It is quite active indoors and although it will be better if we have a small patio. The coat is waterproof and adapts to all types of climates, both warm and cold, so you can live outdoors if we have a yard of a more or less average size. However, this dog likes to be inside the house with his family, since he likes to consider himself part of it.

EXERCISE:

The Shiba Inu is a dog that is not demanding, adapts to the circumstances whenever we take a daily walk. He is a very active dog, who will be better physically and will be happier with regular exercise. Another characteristic of this breed is that it can walk and walk for hours and hours, as it has great resistance.

COATING AND CARE:

The Shiba Inu has a stiff and coarse coat that is easy to care for and keep clean. Living with a Shiba Inu

In Japan, the Shiba inu is very popular. It is found in both the city and the countryside. Adaptable, it accommodates the life of its owners. He agrees in everything as long as they show affection and sympathy and that they take care of him with love and fidelity. In Europe it is still a rare dog to find. From an Olympic calm it is not at all a nervous dog, who barks or growls at the first occasion. A fellow like him rests the ear and even incites those around him to speak lower. Further. The shiba inu possesses a philosophical, reflective aspect that invites serenity. His beautiful intelligent head that leans slightly to one side with dreamy air, the deep look of his almond eyes, seduce and transport to a very particular universe. A universe full of mystery.

Shiba Inu

Behind the door, the shiba inu behaves wonderfully well. Always alert, sure of himself, do not let anyone in. Nothing impresses you. It is not a dog that takes refuge between the legs of its owner when a stranger enters the house. On the contrary, he plants face and can even behave very bravely. He is able to face someone much stronger than he.

In a house, the shiba inu is very discreet; its presence is barely noticeable. It is a dog of great interior life, does not necessarily claim a large garden for fun. Accepts perfectly the obligations of the apartment and the city. Of course, if he is taken to the field, he becomes a totally different dog, an agile athlete, reminiscent of the times when he was hunting. In principle he has no tendency to escape, but like all dogs, he must pass a small learning to return what is called. While he likes to please his owner, it is not about making him do anything. It is unthinkable for a shiba inu to take the newspaper or the shoes to its owner. He hates these kinds of things. When he is not happy he goes to his corner. If he stays for more than an hour giving the back, there is no doubt, he is angry.

At home, he knows how to appreciate the comfort of home, he is a refined dog, especially appreciate having a mattress, carpet and above all lie down in front of the fire in winter. He does not have a jealous temperament and likes others, both people and dogs. Making him live with other dogs of his breed is not a problem. It is reserved and at the same time playful especially with puppies and children.

The Shiba Inu is not a dog that overeats. He has no tendency to be gluttonous or obese. Eat in moderation. You can even leave the food at your fingertips. For an adult of about 12 kilos of weight, would be enough about 180gr. Of meat daily, accompanied by 90 g of rice and 90 g of vegetables together with some food supplements. For our dog to have a balanced diet without deficiencies it is advisable to eat industrial food. If you live in a flat, it can be hot and dehydrated so you have to make sure you always have water at your disposal.

Their appearance reminds us of primitive dogs and is as sturdy as they are. It has no specific health problem. When it starts to get cold, its mantle becomes thick to protect it, so it can live on the outside without any problems.

Their short, rough and thick hair and a thin undercoat do not need any specific care. With a brushing regularly is more than enough to remove dead hair. He does not need to bathe it frequently, he is horrified to observe dirt on his beautiful mantle, and he fills himself only every day, as if it were a cat.
